What Is the Best Whole-House HVAC Solution?

a temperature gauge showing just the right temperature

If you’re ready to upgrade your older HVAC system to a newer model, you may be wondering exactly which solution is right for your home and family. There is no easy answer because each type of HVAC system offers unique benefits. You really have to decide what your expectations and wants are. When you’re ready for a new system, contact us to schedule an in-home assessment. We can review different options and help you decide which one is right for you. In the meantime, you can keep reading to learn more about some of the different solutions for HVAC in Okotoks.

Separate Heater and Air Conditioner

One of your options is to install an air conditioner alongside a separate furnace. This isn’t really an all-in-one heating and cooling solution, but it does get the job done. With separate units, each one can focus on its single capability of either heating or cooling.

This solution means that you have to take steps to maintain two different systems, as well as store them. Two separate indoor units that are each large take up a significant amount of space. If you have a smaller home, this may not be the solution for you.

Heat Pumps

A heat pump offers heating and cooling all within a single system. You can save some space over having to store separate units, plus you only have a single unit to maintain. Of course, you do need to schedule maintenance twice per year for your heat pump since it works as both an air conditioner and heater.

But you won’t have to remember different steps for different systems in the opposite seasons. Plus, heat pumps are highly energy efficient, especially when it comes to heating. Instead of needing to create heat the way a furnace does, a heat pump transfers heat energy from outside your home back inside to raise the temperature.

Ductless Mini Split

When it comes to heat pumps, you also have the option of investing in a ductless system instead of a more traditional central system. A ductless heat pump has individual units installed throughout your home. You can set a uniform temperature on each one to maintain a consistent level of heating or cooling across your entire home.

But you also have the option to have different temperatures in different zones or rooms of your home based on the personal preferences of your family members. Ductless mini splits are a great solution since they are even more energy efficient than any central unit. This is because there is no ductwork involved.

All of the air that gets heated and cooled blows directly into your home without any attached ductwork. It’s possible to reduce your energy costs by as much as 50%. However, the maintenance you have to complete as a homeowner is a little bit more detailed than if you had a central unit. You have to change out and clean multiple smaller air filters as well as cleaning out multiple condensate drain lines.

No matter what option you choose, there are ways to maximize your HVAC solutions and our team is here to help. Once you make a choice, we can offer our best recommendations for how to utilize your HVAC system as effectively as possible.
